Did you know that packing certain snacks in your kids’ lunches can actually scrub your teeth naturally and help to stimulate saliva! Try to avoid packing sticky, sugary, or acidic foods that will cling to the teeth and cause cavities.

Here are some kid (and tooth) friendly snack ideas:

  • Cucumber, celery, peppers and carrot sticks. Veggies act as a natural scrubber and help to produce extra saliva that will wash away bacteria.
  • Apples, pears, pineapple and berries. Fruits are high in water and fiber. They will help to scrub the surface plaque away and massage the gums.
  • Hard cheese such as cheddar, swiss and mozzarella help to stimulate saliva flow, balance the pH in your mouth and strengthen enamel.

Always remember to pack water! It’s your secret weapon to help rinse away food particles that are left over after eating. Teaching your kids to rinse and swish after eating at an early age can set them up for a lifetime of positive oral health routines.
